Tonight the first autumn cold front blew in, and for the first time this season, the wind has a bite to it. I spent this first night of real autumn at a book store author reading, layered in a scarf and cardigan, needing extra layers of fabric for the first time in so many months. I love fall and winter -- I know so many people who moved to the Southwest to escape the Northeastern winters, but I miss them. I loved spotting the first snowflakes in the air. I have distinct memories of walking down brownstone-lined streets, in awe of the orange and gold canopy of leaves arching above my head. I took solitary fall hikes through gorgeous forests (like the one pictured above -- a wooded trail I often walked.) So I savor this fleeting Austin chill, knowing it is temporary.
